Celebrating visionary voices

TikTok BHM Creator Party 2023
- Lead Creative Strategist

For TikTok’s 2023 Black History Month Creator Party in Los Angeles, I led the creative strategy, shaping an event that not only celebrated the platform’s Black creators but also supported Black-owned businesses and brands. The venue for this special day was Alta, a Black-owned restaurant in LA, which we transformed into a vibrant hub of creativity, culture, and community.

A Celebration of Black Creators

Our concept was centered around elevating TikTok’s Black creators and giving them a space to shine. We took over Alta for the day, incorporating giant iPhone screens throughout the venue, where the profiles and content of the featured creators were displayed. This setup turned each creator into the star of their own show, visually showcasing their presence on TikTok and reinforcing their contributions to the platform’s dynamic culture.

Interactive and Culturally-Rich Experiences

To enhance the experience, we offered a variety of interactive elements, such as a tooth gem station where guests could add a little sparkle to their smiles. Each guest also received gifts from Black-owned brands, with products from some of the most influential names in the Black community, including wellness items from Serena Williams, John Legend, and Jackie Aina’s brands. This not only made the event more personal and thoughtful but also underscored TikTok’s commitment to supporting Black-owned businesses.

Entertainment and Surprise Performances

The party's energy was electric from the moment guests walked in, thanks to a red carpet moment that gave everyone a chance to shine. Inside, the vibe was elevated by our DJ, who kept the energy high and the dance floor packed throughout the event. As a surprise highlight, we arranged a performance by Lola Brooke, whose powerful presence took the event to another level, leaving the guests thrilled and energized.

This event was more than just a party—it was a celebration of Black excellence and creativity, where TikTok’s top Black creators were honored in a space that fostered joy, connection, and empowerment. Through strategic collaborations with Black-owned brands and businesses, we ensured that every detail supported the broader theme of uplifting the Black community. My role as creative strategy lead involved working closely with TikTok’s teams to ensure that the event was as impactful as it was unforgettable, helping to further cement TikTok's dedication to diversity and inclusion.
